Junior League Announced for '2000

Canadian Hockey Inline (CHI) announces today the formation of The Great Lakes Jr. League, based out of Ontario, Canada. The league will be comprised of elite level players ages 16-20. All teams associated with the league have a strong affiliation with CHI sanctioned, community based youth leagues, and in most communities will be operated by the same organizations and quality people.

"We see this as the next step to the youth programs that all of these Junior Team owners and operators are involved with", says Dave Easter , Manager of Inline Programs for CHI. "Without the support of the community based youth leagues, the Junior program will never develop on it's own. Both the Youth and Junior leagues need to work together to provide quality events and development programs for their players. The youth players will now have inline stars in their own community to emulate, an elite Junior community team they will support, and a team to strive to be part of in the future."

The Great Lakes name was chosen to provide opportunity for USA teams to join the league, from Michigan and New York, providing a North American flavor to the league. The Great Lakes area has always been a hockey hotbed, rich in tradition providing some of the best hockey talent in the world. The inline hockey talent from this Region has followed the ice hockey tradition and continues to be ranked amongst the best in the world.

  • Brantford Rolling Thunder

  • Mississauga Roller Jets

  • Brampton Radicals

  • Kitchener-Waterloo Rage

  • London Fury

  • Chatham Rolling Cobras

  • Hamilton Powerbladers

The above teams have all committed to the league for '2000, providing some of the best inline talent in the world. The league will be accepting applications for additional teams to still join for the '2000 season.

The league will be managed by the Ontario based CHI administration office, to provide consistency for the Youth & Junior programs all playing under CHI rules and regulations. All on-surface officials will be Level II certified through the highly regarded educational officiating program of CHI.

Both the Great Lakes Jr. League and the CHI Youth Leagues, of Ontario will provide the talent pool for selection of Team Ontario players for the Global Inline Hockey Festival '2000, for teams 14 & Under, 16 & Under and 18 & Under.
